Frequently Asked Questions

Why choose custom design?

A custom design garment is the opportunity to express your unique style, by working with the dressmaker you can create a garment that fits your personality as well as your body. You choose the style, color and fabric choice.

Does custom design cost more than retail?

Our prices are competitive with retail. It is not realistic to expect fine quality custom clothing for less than factory-made apparel. However, in the situation of reproducing expensive designer originals, the custom reproduction is significantly less. There are no hidden costs for alterations, special sizes, or minor design changes. Remember, you are not just buying a garment; you are hiring a highly skilled professional to produce an original.

How long will it take to have my garment custom made?

Delivery time varies depending on the type of garment, fitting schedule, and time of year. On the average, a custom garment takes 6 – 8 weeks to complete. Bridal gowns usually take 6 to 9 months to complete; we appreciate 4 to 6 months for bridal parties. However, every effort is made to accommodate garments needed sooner. Rush deadlines may incur and extra charge for overtime.

Why do I have to come for fittings?

Fittings are important because the garment is being custom made for your body. Ready to wear garments are generically fitted to a dress form size. Your garment is made to your measurements; a muslin pattern is made from those measurements and the garment is fitted before it is completed. Most garments require three fittings; bridal gowns usually require additional fittings.

What are the payment terms?

A 50 % non-refundable deposit required at time of contract. May be paid by cash; check; Visa or MasterCard. All sales are final. Balance is due at the second fitting and payable in cash only.

What if I don’t like the garment?

There are no returns or exchanges for custom design, just like there are no returns on retail bridal gowns once a contract is signed. If during the dressmaking process you have second thoughts about the design, changes can be made; depending on the stage of the garment this may incur an extra charge. It is important to address your concerns to the dressmaker during your fittings to insure that you will be pleased with the finished garment.
